Erwin Schurr, PhD

Erwin Schurr is a Distinguished James McGill Professor of Human Genetics and Medicine at McGill University. He is also Leader of the Program in Infectious Diseases and Immunity in Global Health (IDIGH) at the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre. His main areas of research are human genetics and functional genomics of mycobacterial disease, specifically leprosy and tuberculosis. The focus of his work in leprosy is the definition of the shared control of leprosy with Parkinson’s disease and Crohn’s disease. The general objective of his research is the detailed understanding of disease pathogenesis and ways to harness such mechanistic understanding for effective disease control and prevention.
