Federico Soria, PhD

Federico Soria, PhD, is an early-career researcher at the Achucarro Basque Center for Neuroscience. His research is focused on the interplay between the extracellular matrix and glial cells in rodent and human models of aging and brain pathology. He mostly uses fluorescence microscopy tools in vivo, ex vivo or 3D-in vitro paradigms, where one can manipulate the matrix and or neuroinflammation experimentally. Dr. Soria’s work recently described the nanoscale organisation of the extracellular space in the mouse parkinsonian brain, and unraveled a functional interaction between the extracellular matrix and microglia in this pathology, critical for disease progression.
