Prof. Boeckxstaens obtained his medical degree in 1987 and his PhD degree in 1991. In 1994, he completed his clinical training in Internal Medicine / Gastroenterology and is currently full professor in Medicine at the University of Leuven (Belgium), department of Gastroenterology. He received several national and international prizes, received the prestigious European Research Council (ERC) Advanced Grant in 2014 and 2019, and is Associate Editor of Gut. The scientific expertise of the research group of Prof. Boeckxstaens relates to neurogastroenterology and neuro-immune interactions in the gastrointestinal tract.
