Michael Nalls, PhD

Michael is a data science consultant. He founded his own company, Data Tecnica, in early 2017 after working over a decade in large dataset analytics and methods research in healthcare and other scientific fields. Michael has over 300 peer-reviewed publications in the field of applied statistics in large datasets, brain diseases, and genomics and is a strong advocate of open science, collaboration, and transparency in science. He has helped identify over 90% of the known genetic risk factors for Parkinson’s disease and continues to develop a codebase and data support team to find more risk factors for the disease. Michael has worked on various diseases and complex traits in healthcare/genomics and supported venture capital, tech, and biotech companies in machine learning and cloud-based analytics. In 2015, he was recognized as a “young investigator of the year” at the International Conference on Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Diseases.
